Former National Security Agency Director Keith Alexander’s security startup, IronNet Cybersecurity, announced on Monday that it has raised a $32.5 million Series A.

The round was led Palo Alto, Calif.-based Trident Capital Cybersecurity, joined by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, which is headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif.

Washington, D.C.-based IronNet will use money to further develop its security product, which is designed for the private sector. IronNet doesn’t say a lot about how its platform will work, but does say it uses advanced behavioral models, Big Data analytics, and advanced computing capabilities to “support proactive mitigation.”

CEO Alexander, a retired four-star Army general and former head of U.S. Cyber Command, founded IronNet last year with former employees from the Defense Department, the National Counterterrorism Center, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, as well as experts from the commercial sector.

As part of the Series A funding, Kleiner Perkins’ Ted Schlein joined IronNet’s board, which also includes Don Dixon, founder and managing director of Trident.
