Composable infrastructure startup Liqid today said it scored a $28 million Series B funding round bringing its total raised to $50 million. Panorama Point Partners led the latest investment with participation from Iron Gate Capital, and affiliates of DH Capital.
Liqid closed the Series B “amongst a record quarter on our side — record profit, record revenue, and a record number of customers” that have deployed Liqid’s composable infrastructure, said CEO and co-founder Sumit Puri. He didn't provide specifics, but said the company doubled its quarter-over-quarter revenue, and points to partnerships with hardware vendors. Companies including Inspur and Dell Technologies sell Liqid’s switch and software inside their servers and storage devices.
Composable infrastructure creates fluid pools of compute, networking, and storage resources that can be composed and recomposed on the fly.
The 6-year-old startup started selling its platform in early 2018. Customers include “a handful of universities, a handful of medical facilities, a handful of traditional large enterprise customers, financial institutions,” and public sector organizations, Puri said, adding that the company is also working with service providers. Orange is one of these, and the telecommunications providers uses its technology for cloud, edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and high-performance compute.
“We’re very excited about what’s happening with some of the telecom and 5G providers,” Puri said. “A tremendous amount of spend is going on in the 5G buildout and we’re playing a role in that.”
Liqid will use the Series B funding to hire more employees across operations, sales, marketing, engineering, and other business-critical functions. That’s one part, Puri said. “And the other part will be used to make sure we maintain our technology leadership position as the world’s most comprehensive composable infrastructure platform. This is going to give us the fuel we need to grow to the next level.”
